Our Story

Shell Lake Full Gospel Church was birthed in August of 1969 with the purchase of the former St. John’s Lutheran Church and parsonage by members of the board of Apostolic Faith Tabernacle, in Barronett, Wisconsin. Pastor Virgil and Linda Amundson moved from Rice Lake to Shell Lake and began work of pioneering the Full Gospel ministry in Shell Lake and the Washburn County area.

During the first nine years, the church grew numerically as the “charismatic” renewal and the “Jesus Movement” added influx of those whose lives were changed and renewed by the Holy Spirit.

Having outgrown the first facility by 1977, the church relocated south of town by building at the present location in 1978. Another wave of harvest is currently burgeoning the church to capacity and a larger addition has been added to the facility, giving the present building a capacity for 350 people in the sanctuary, along with a large office complex, large nursery space, additional youth room space, and enlarged foyer.

In the year of 2000, the SLFG purchased the parsonage located next to the church. It is now used to house guest ministries and students of theBURN program.

In 2003, the church purchased the former Jehovah Witness building across the street, and it has been renovated into the UTurn Center. This building is used by our student ministries as a social center. There are also family nights and many other activities held there.

In 2005, the church extended its outreach by planting a new church in Turtle Lake, Wisconsin known as Grace Community Church. It is a vibrant and growing assembly.

The growth and extension of the ministries of SLFG are a fulfillment of a prophetic vision received by Pastor Amundson in 1975 with the words from Job 8:7. "Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end shall greatly increase."on4
